Edward A. Spindler, 86, of Haubstadt, IN passed away on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at his residence.

 

He was born to the late Frank and Rosa (Pohl) Spindler on Nov. 5, 1922 in Haubstadt, IN and has resided there his entire life.

 

Ed was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt. He was retired from the Emge Meat Packing Co. after 44 years of service. Ed was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sgt., in the European Theater from Sept. 1943 until Oct. 1945. He was a member of the Haubstadt American Legion Post #194, the Fort Branch, VFW Post #2714, the NRA, the D.A.V., and the Haubstadt Knights of St. John.

 

Besides his parents, Ed is preceded in death by his wife Cecilia T. (Gries) Spindler in 2007; 4 brothers, Ferd Spindler, Leonard Spindler, Raymond Spindler, Albert Spindler; and 2 sisters, Sister Rosella Spindler OSB., and Pauline Spindler.  

 

He is survived by 6 children and their spouses, Marilyn R. (George) O Neal of Evansville, Rose Ann (Jerry) Lofton of Haubstadt, Melvin (Tina) Spindler of Evansville, Mildred (Joe) Schmitt of Haubstadt, Albert (Deena) Spindler of Evansville and Eugene (Brenda) Spindler of Haubstadt; 2 brothers and 1 sister, Frank Spindler of Haubstadt, Leo Spindler of Owensville, and Loretta Schmitt of Poseyville; 18 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren.

 

A mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 at St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt at 10:00 A.M., with Father Raymond Brenner and Father Tony Ernst, co-celebrants, burial will be in the church cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the VFW Post #2714 and the American Legion Post # 194.

 

Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Stodghill Funeral Home located on Hwy. 168 West in Fort Branch, IN, and again from 9;00 A.M. until service time at the church on Monday. A rosary will be recited by the church parish at 7:30 P.M. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
