Andrew John Cairns, 89, formerly of Haubstadt, passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011 at The Villages Hospice House, The Villages, Fla. 

Mr. Cairns was born in May’s Landing, N.J. and moved to the Wildwood area in 1982 from Valdosta, Ga.  He retired from the Army Corps. of Engineers where he worked for more than 25 years as a project engineer.  He was a charter member of the Faith Presbyterian Church in Oxford, Fla. where he served as a Deacon and  morning greeter.

Andrew was a patriot and was a combat wounded veteran during W.W. II while serving in the U. S. Army.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer who played with the same foursome for more than 20 years at the Continental Country Club, Wildwood, Fla.  He was a former member of the American Legion Post 124 serving as commander and as a national convention representative.  He was president of the Haubstadt town council and parade chairman for the 1955 centennial celebration.  He and his father owned Cairns Construction Co.

 Survivors include his two daughters, Linda (David) Kuester of LaFontaine, Cynthia (Danny) Krutina of Ogden, Utah;  his fiancé and companion, Joyce Palmer of Wildwood, Fla.; three grandchildren, Maj. Christopher Kuester of Jamestown, R.I.; Jonathan Kuester of East Dundee, Ill.; Specialist Ivan Krutina of Ft. Richardson, Alaka; three great-grandchildren, Trevette, Guthrie, and Cohen Kuester; four sisters-in-law, Mary and Connie Cromer both of Oakland City; Mildred Loewenkamp of Princeton, Elizabeth (Cairns) Schetrom of Melbourne, Fla ; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Ruby (Cromer) Cairns; his parents, Alfred and Olga Cairns; two daughters, Andrea Jane Nall, Mary Ruth Cairns; brothers, Alfred and Melvin Cairns; and a sister, Edna Godbersen.

 The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at Banks, Page Theus Funeral Home and Cremation Services, in Wildwood, Fla.  Additionally the family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. (service time) Saturday at the Faith Presbyterian Church, Oxford, Fla.  Mr. Cairns will be laid to rest next to his wife at St. Stephen’s Church Cemetery in Warrenton.
