Robert D. Knew, 80, of Shelburn, formerly from Francisco, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Miller's Merry Manor in Sullivan.

He was born in Sullivan Sept. 3, 1930, son of Gertrude (Probst) Knew and Lex Knew.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley (Sept 30, 2010).

He was a member of the Faith Community Church in Dugger. He retired after 28 years from Amax Coal Co. and was a member of the UMWA Local #1791. He and his wife enjoyed camping for 30 years at Sullivan Lake, Circle C.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mary Moyer, Thelma Jean Richardson and Ruth Terry.

Survivors include three sons, Roger (Melinda) Knew of Fairfield, Ill., Randy (Janelle) Knew of Heber Springs, Ark., Russell (Teresa) Knew of Newburgh; a daughter, Shelly Hunt of Olney, Ill., a sister-in-law, Donna (Jack) Woodard of Dugger; a brother-in-law, Roy Frayser of Pendleton; a sister-in-law, Betty Burris of Middletown; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Banks and Brust Funeral Home 400 N. Court St. Sullivan, with Pastor Sean Farris officiating. Burial will be in the Dugger Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. until services Thursday.
