George Martin Shaw 53, formerly of Princeton, died suddenly Monday, Feb. 21, 2011 at his home in Alexandria, Va.

He was born March 19, 1957 in Williamsport, Pa., to Robert and Ruth Ann Shaw.

A graduate of Princeton Community High School, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Evansville.

Those who knew George can attest to his love of history, particularly the Civil War era, of language and of music. He was a lively conversationalist and a master of wordplay.

George is survived by his parents, Robert and Ruth Ann Shaw of Princeton; a brother, Robert (Margo) Shaw of Columbus, Ohio; nieces, Julia Shaw of Raleigh, N.C. and Katherine Shaw of Wheaton, Ill.; aunts, Margaret Simmons and Jeanine Wagner of Carbondale, Ill.; uncles, Martin N. Shaw of Ashville, N.C., J. Barron Shaw (Lucille) of Greensboro, N.C., C.P. Shaw (Maude) of Greenville, N.C.; and many cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Rymer Shaw.
