Rev.Frank H. “Jocko” McCandless, 84, of Winslow, passed away  Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

Born Sept. 19,1926 in Pike County, he was the son of Hobart and Myrtle (Evans) McCandless.

He was a retired coal miner from Amax Coal Co. in Keensburg, Ill., a member of UMWA, retired Church Of God minister, long time member of Muren Church of God and was pastor from 1958-1991.

Survivors include daughter, Vonda Kay McCandless of Winslow; sons, Bart (Brenda F.) McCandless of Haubstadt, Brad (Brenda L.) McCandless of Princeton, Mark (Angie) McCandless of Petersburg; sisters; Sue (Don) Russell and Sandy (Bill) Rowe both of Winslow, Sherry (Danny) Schmitt of Velpen; 10  grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by parents; a son, Randall Kent McCandless in 1977; wife, Maxine Doris McCandless on Dec. 16,2011; brothers, Gerald, Kenny, Jack and Elwood McCandless; and sisters, Louise Pirkle and Ann Wells.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. (eastern) Monday, March 21, 2011 at Muren Church Of God with the Rev. Dusty McCandless and the Rev. Clint Woolsey officiating.  Burial will be in Williams Cemetery near Oakland City.

Visitation was 1-6 p.m. (eastern) Sunday at Muren Church of God and from 10 a.m.  until the service hour on Monday at the church. Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel is handling of arrangements
