Albert “Hawk” Dixon, 97, passed away Tuesday April 26, 2011 at the The New Willow Manor Nursing Home in Vincennes

He was born Aug. 30, 1913 in Giro, to Theodore and Ann (Collins) Dixon

He lived in Hazleton most of his life moving there from Giro.

Hawk was a farmer for many years.  He was an avid gardener and always raised a lot of produce, especially turnips. He was an avid fisherman.  He supplied a lot of fish for river fish fries and he also fried a lot of fish for them as well. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge Arie 361 in Princeton where he always enjoyed going dancing on Saturday nights.

He was the last surviving member of the Hazleton High School 1933 state finals basketball team.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sharon Dixon of Vincennes; two grandchildren, Shannon Dixon of Naples Fla. and Jared Dixon of Minneapolis, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Helen Dixon, Dec. 8, 2010;  a son, Keith Dixon; brothers, Lester “Lec”, Leland “Brownie,” Theodore “Boone” Dixon Jr.; and a sister, Audrey Birch.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2011 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Leah Robberts-Mosser officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hazleton Community Cemetery.
