Laquita Phelps, 60, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at VNA Charlier Hospice Center.

She was the first female security guard at Mead Johnson-Bristol Myers Squibb. She loved to play the piano and enjoyed her winters on the beach in
South Carolina with her husband, Lionel. She also enjoyed gardening and planting flowers at their home in Princeton, IN.

Laquita is survived by her husband, Lionel Phelps; mother, Ernestine Tate; children, Tammi Gregg (Randy), Julie Nelson, Lionel Phelps II (Jodi), Joe Phelps (Kristie) and Clint Phelps; grandchildren, Kelsie, Kyla, Randy, Jr., Reese, Jordyn, China, Kennedy, Brok, Quinn, Zane, Travis, Colton and Grace; sister, LeDorie Schulz; and brother, Richard Tate.

Services will be
11:00 AM Friday, May 6, 2011, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Pastor George Prinzing, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
