Albert R. “Al” Morris, 84, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh

Born Oct. 19, 1926 in Evansville, he was the son of Albert and Henrietta (Neidig) Morris. 

Al resided in Haubstadt the past 37 years. He was formerly the owner of Al’s Van Land in Evansville and was known as “Al Morris the Van Man.

 He attended Sunday school at Fort Branch Baptist Church.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 194 in Haubstadt.  Al was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching golf tournaments as well as other sporting events.  He was a former Evansville and National marble tournament champion. He was also a member of The National Horseshoe Association.    Al was an avid fan of The University of Evansville basketball team.

 Al is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence (Dewig) Morris; two daughters, Cynthia (Chuck) Hutchison of Burnesville, NC; Marleen Morris of Richmond, Va.; two sons, Mark Morris of San Francisco, Calif., Bryan (Corine) Morris of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, David Round and Taylor Hutchison; and one great-grandchild, Sidney Albert-Allan Round.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Lloyd Morris.

 Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2011 at Wade Funeral Home with Father Tony Ernst officiating.  Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Wade Funeral Home and a memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call from 9 a.m. until the service hour on Tuesday at the funeral home.
