Geneva A. Jaynes, 86, of Mt. Carmel, Ill., formerly of Oakland City, passed away Thursday Sept. 8, 2011 at home.

She was born on March 22, 1925 in Adair County, Ky., to Garlin and Pauline (Wilson) Bragg. 

She married Granville Levi Jaynes on Feb. 3, 1957.

She was raised by her grandfather and grandmother Wilson and aunts Evalynn, Avis, and Josie.  She assisted her aunt in raising her children and was unable to finish high school.  She earned her GED at age 68.  She retired as a dietitian.

She was a member of Oakland City Nazarene Church for more than 40 years.  She attended Mt. Carmel Nazarene Church after moving to Mt. Carmel.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Hayden, two grandsons; four great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Granville Jaynes; her parents; and a brother, Bradford Bragg.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday Sept.11, 2011 at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Brad Garner officiating. Burial was in Forsythe Cemetery.

Visitation was noon until  the service hour on Sunday.
