Anna Mae Young Alvis, 96, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011 at Gibson General Hospital-Skilled Nursing Facility in Princeton. She was born July 23, 1915 in Starkville, Mississippi to Magnolia A. and William E. Young.

Anna Mae was a member of
Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Princeton for over 50 years, where she was on the Mother’s Board and president of the choir. She also had her certificate for the 50-voice choir. She was secretary of the Household of Ruth for many years and was president of the women’s auxiliary of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist convention. She retired from Farmer’s National Bank in Princeton.

She is survived by a sister, Lunolia Simmons and a brother, James Young both of
Princeton; 2 granddaughters, Gwen Wilson and Carmen Alexander; 8 great grandchildren
and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sonja Alexander; brothers and sisters, Lendal (L. C.), Moses, Raymond, Elizabeth, William Jr., Eliza, Dorothy, Isaiah (Zeke) and Paul.

Funeral services will be at
11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011 at Greater Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, 202 E. Pinkney Street, Princeton, Indiana, with the Dr. William W. Simmons officiating. Burial will be at Sand Hill Cemetery, west of Princeton.

 

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton is handling the arrangements.
