Harold Richard Bass, 68, passed away Sunday Oct. 9, 2011 at the Gibson General Hospital in Princeton

 

He was born April 9, 1943 in Neosho Mo., to Harold and Melba (Lewis) Bass.

 

He was retired from IBM as a global network architect.  He had worked for Potter & Brumfield and Siemans of Princeton in computer networking for 26 years. He was a Novell certified netware engineer.

 

He lived in Somerville since 2003 moving there from Winston-Salem NC.  He attended the Church of the Nazarene in Mt. Carmel.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a former member of the Sons of the American Revolution and was a descendant of the Nansemond Indian Tribe Ruling Family. He was an avid ham radio operator and extremely proficient in Morse code.

 

He is survived by his wife, Jane Bass, of Somerville;  mother, Melba Bass, of Princeton; daughter, Stacey (Wayne) Robb, of Princeton; son, Kevin (Sandy) Bass, of Houston, Texas; two step-daughters, Heather (Bill) Alvis, of Princeton and Juli (Hashon) Geddings, Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Justin, Chelsie, Austin and Jasmine Robb; four step-grandchildren, Westley and William Alvis, Kristina Martin and Kiara Geddings; and one great-granddaughter, Lexis Robb.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Bass.

 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct 12, 2011 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Bobby Brewer and Rev. Margie Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery in Mt. Carmel. VFW Post 1147 will conduct military graveside services.

 

Visitation will be noon until the service hour on Wednesday at the Colvin Funeral Home.
