Gary D.  Lytle, 73, of Oakland City, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011 at home.

 

He was born May 23, 1938 in Gibson County to Fred Lytle and Ella Mae (Hill) Melton.

 

He was a member of the Oakland City Masonic Lodge 467, OES Chapter 598 in Birdseye and Golden Fleece Chapter 176 of Oakland City.

 

He was avid farmer, wood worker, gardener, loved horses and worked construction for many years. He retired as a coal miner from Old Ben Coal Co. No. 11 and was a member of the United Mind Workers of America (UMWA).

 

Survivors include his wife, Mayme (Mitchell) Lytle; daughter, Sherry Busing of Oakland City, Pam (Jim) Collins of Ferdinand;  sons, Dean (Janice) Lytle of Birdseye, Greg Lytle (Robin) of Francisco; brother, Bob (Shirley) Lytle of Oakland City; sisters, June (Gary) Cunningham of Birdseye, Anadell (Ronnie) Muckelrath of Vidor, Texas, Carolea (Jessie) Scott of Angleton, Texas;  nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct.21, 2011 at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City with Dr. Douglas Low and Rev. Charles Gipson officiating.  Burial will be in Bethany Union Cemetery near English.

 

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. until the service hour on Friday at the chapel. A masonic memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday.
