Roy Pierce, 72, of Patoka, passed away on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011 at his residence.

 

He was born May 7, 1939, in Owensboro, Ky., to Jesse and Irene (Lankford) Pierce. He was a custodian at the former Franklin elementary school for Gibson County for 15 years, retiring in 1991.

 

On Jan. 10, 1963, in Owensboro, Ky, he married Lela Lawson, who survives.

 

Roy was an avid fisherman who dearly loved his family, and woodcarving as well as playing darts with his wife.  He was a member of the Princeton Holiness Tabernacle of Princeton.

 

He is survived by his wife, Lela Pierce of Patoka; son, Roy David (Stacy) Pierce of Petersburg; daughters, Paula K. (Tom) Kennedy of Oline N.C., Martha Sue (Kevin) of Princeton, Elizabeth (Tim) Wiford of Anderson, Anna (Chris) Besselman of Warsaw, Ky., and Mary (Doug) Derscheid of Evart, Mich.

 

Other survivors include brothers, Armet (Sharon) Pierce of Clearwater, Fla., Robert Pierce of Key West, Fla., Bryon (Doris) Pierce of Owensboro, Ky., and sisters, Edna Donze of Charlotte, Mich., and Ruth Pierce of Mississippi; 28 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jesse William.

 

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 with Pastor Larry Meadows officiating, at Doyle Funeral Home located at 520 S. Main St., Princeton, IN 47670.

 

Internment will take place in Hamline Chapel Cemetery located in Monroe City.

 

Visitation will be on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 from 4 until 8 p.m.
