Carol Faye Murphy, 80, formerly of Bicknell, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, in Casper, Wyo., from complications from surgery.

 

She was born Nov. 2, 1931 in Bicknell, daughter of Leo and Jennie Hester (Strain) O'Dell. She attended Bicknell High School and Indiana Business College.

 

She was preceded in death in 1999 by her husband of 48 years, Robert E. Murphy.

 

She was pianist for church services and played bass in several bands in the 1950's and 60's. She also enjoyed baking and sewing. She was a member of the Vincennes Genealogy Club; served on the cemetery board, was a member of American Legion and VFW auxiliaries, Women's Democrat Club, North Knox Social Ministries, St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Casper, Wyo., a former member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Bicknell, and formerly served as Vigo Township Trustee. She earned the Brute Award for her service and devotion to the church.

 

She is survived by her children, Kathy (David) Trowbridge of Owensville, Becky (Galen) Walsh of Casper, Janice (Dan) Steiner of Casper, Linda (Carl) O'Hara of Bicknell, Gary (Cathy) Murphy of Bicknell, Dee Ann Kilburn of Ellettsville and Jennifer Pitts of Vincennes; 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, a sister, Betty Thuis of Bicknell, sister in law, Diane (Abner) Horrall of Oaktown.

 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a twin brother Carl O‘Dell, brothers, John and Doyle O'Dell, sisters Doris Luking and Mary Ellen Wiegman, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Bicknell with Father Jason Gries officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at noon at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

 

Visitation is from 3-6 p.m. Friday at Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel in Bicknell.
