James E. "Jim" Hartwell, Sr., 78, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 at Good Samaritan Home in Oakland City

 

He was born Aug. 2, 1933 in Princeton to Earl and Beulah (Woods) Hartwell.  He lived most of his life in Princeton and moved back here from Salt Lake City, Utah

 

He served in the U. S. Air Force in Korea and the U. S. Army in Germany and was a member of the V. F. W.  He was retired and was a former superintendent at the county highway garage.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints in Vincennes.

 

He is survived by his wife, Frances E. "Tody" Hartwell; six children, Katherine Scott of Newburgh, James E. Hartwell, Jr. of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Kirk Davis Hartwell of Rentz, Georgia, Charles Eric Hartwell of Bonaire, Georgia, Jeff Hartwell of Jamestown, New York and JoLayne Sampson of Salt Lake City, Utah; three step-sons, Dennis and Ron Burns both of Princeton and Don Burns of Haubstadt; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Alice June Regenhold of Fort Branch.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Katherine Hartwell, in 1989.

 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with Bishop Ryan Lough officiating.  Burial will be at Columbia White Church Cemetery in Princeton.  V.F.W. Post 1147 will provide full military rites at the cemetery. 

 

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Colvin Funeral Home.
