Herschel W. Sollman, 88, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. 

 

He was born to the late George H. and Hulda (Hasselbrinck) Sollman on Apr. 8, 1924 in Fort Branch, IN.

    

Herschel was retired as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal service, and was a member of the Fort Branch First United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of the Fort Branch Masonic Lodge #696, the Evansville Scottish Rite, the Evansville Hadi Shrine.  Herschel enjoyed his garden and his farm, and got a lot of joy from watching Gibson Southern athletics.

    

Besides his parents, Herschel was also preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Lou (McCarty) Sollman, 12 brothers and sisters, George, Selma, Hermann, Edwin, Walter, Lorena Sollmam, Elizabeth Kneer, Hulda Schnautz, Norma Warren, Anna Meyer, Marie Kuester, and Doris Wildt.

    

He is survived by his wife, Opal (Grimm, Keeker) Sollman, a son, Steve (Patricia) Sollman of North Vernon, IN, 4 step children, Marilyn (Ross) Brittingham of Oatsville, IN, Rick (Sharon) Keeker of Francisco, IN, Marsha (Lee) Binhack of Princeton, IN, and Janelle Young of Fort Branch, IN.  He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Michelle (Matthew) Sharp, Emily, Benjamin, and Rachael Sollman, 9 step-grandchildren, and 16 step-great grandchildren.

    

Services will be on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Stodghill Funeral Home located on Hwy. 168 West in Fort Branch, IN, Rev. Rick Miller will officiate.  Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch, IN. 

 

Visitation will be on Monday Apr. 7, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again at the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Tuesday.  A Masonic Service by the Fort Branch Masonic Lodge # 696 will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. on Monday evening at the funeral home.
