Elvis A. Mason, 90, of Oakland City entered rest Saturday at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.

 

He was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Elberfeld, to David and Retta (McGregor) Mason.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife,  Doris Mason, in April 1992. 

 

Elvis was an active member of First General Baptist Church, lifetime member of Oakland City American Legion Post 256 and Princeton V.F.W. Post. 

 

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, and received a battlefield commission during WWII. 

 

Until recently he still drove, tended his garden regularly and was active in church.

 

He is survived by a son, Edward “Kent” Mason of Princeton; grandchildren, Josh Mason, Shanna Mason Rose, Eva Rose and Bruce Rose; great-grandchildren Eric Mason, T.J. Schaefer and Brianna Schaefer. 

 

The family extends special thanks to Joe and Jenny Smith. Elvis loved them very much and they were especially appreciated during the time of his illness. 

 

Services will be Friday July 20, 2012 10 a.m., First General Baptist Church with burial in Montgomery Cemetery. Rev. Larry Johnson will be officiating.

 

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel and from 8 a.m. until services on Friday at the church.
