Darrell Floyd Hill, 82, Oakland City, entered rest Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Oakland City.

 

He was born June 24, 1930, in Uniontown, Ky., son of Floyd Wilbert and Marietta Russelburg Hill. They preceded him in death.

 

He moved with his family to Evansville at age 10, attended Evansville Central High School, and served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II, in post-war Japan.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Florence (Townsend) Hill. Together, they owned and operated Johnson’s Restaurant in Oakland City for 28 years. 

 

Later, he was general manager for Denny’s in Dale for 10 years. He also worked in sales for Keusch Windows in Jasper until retirement in 2006.

He attended Oak Grove General Baptist Church in Oakland City, serving on the board of trustees. He was also an honorary Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Casey; two brothers, Dennis and Kenneth Shockley; and grandson, Andy Mills.

 

Surviving are his wife of three years, Marietta Hill of Oakland City; son, Greg Hill of Greenwood; daughters, Christi Minnis and Julie Hill of Evansville and Roxanne (Randy) Mills of Oakland City; stepdaughters, Margo Hendricks and Christine Thorne of Oakland City, and Sarah (rod) Gendron of Mackey; stepsons Jessee (Lynn) Drew of Newburgh and Tommy (Melissa) Drew of Chandler; sisters Dora Long, Norma Voyles, Linda Rembusch, Dorothy Phillips and Sheila Adcock; brother, Jack Shockley; grandchildren, Rachel (Rusty) Mooreman, Ryan Minnis, Ryan (Courtney) Mills, Erin (Jarod) Morrison, Alicia Ford, Allison (Adam) Werne, Megan and Audra Hill; and eight great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Aug. 10 at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Rev. Kenneth Moyes officiating.

 

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m until the service hour Friday at the chapel.
