Ellis G. Truitt, 95, passed away Friday, August 10, 2012 at The Heart Hospital at Deaconess Gateway in Newburgh.

 

He was born in Coe, Indiana on July 19, 1917 to Ottis A. and Estel O. (Kays) Truitt.

 

He was a combat veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army 2/12/42 – 6/21/45 and a member of V.F.W. Post 1147. A 60+ year member 
of the UMWA-District 12 and retired from Peabody Coal after working there from 12/12/46 – 5/31/84. A member of the Big River Bend Appaloosa Horse Club, an avid horseman and lover of Appaloosa horses. 

Survivors are his brother, John Truitt (Joyce) of Oakland City; sisters-in-law, Lila Truitt, Phyllis (Waller) Strunk and Joan (French) Waller; brother-in-law, Ken Barnard; and nieces and nephews, Dixie Ashby, Debbie Kueber, Joanna Mason, Mike Truitt, Kent Truitt, Peggy Scott, Paula Hurm, Charles Strunk, Anita Walters, Renee Haws, Sheila Cross, Marc Waller, Lisa Clark, Evan Barnard and Eva Lisle. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Gene (Waller) Truitt on
August 22, 2004; his parents; brothers, Ora Truitt and Paul Truitt; a sister, Lucille (Truitt) LeMasters and a niece, Deanna Briggs. 

Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, with Rev. Fred Brittain officiating.

 

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday and again from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home. Burial will be at Montgomery Cemetery in Oakland City.  V.F.W. Post 1147 will provide full military rites at the cemetery.
