Leonard Adolph Nolcox was born on August 20, 1937, to Rev. Earl and Thelma M. Nolcox in Gibson County, Lyles Station, Indiana.  

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Cora McKay. 

 

Leonard gave his life to Jesus at an early age and was a member of Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church in Lyles Station, Indiana, where his father was pastor.

Leonard attended Lyles Station Elementary and Owensville High for his early education.   During his Freshman year of high school, he excelled in basketball with the Owensville Kickapoos and was a member of the 1953 Gibson County Sectional Champs.  In 1954, Leonard moved with his family to Princeton Indiana, where he attended Princeton High School and joined the Princeton Tigers basketball team.  In 1956, his senior year, Leonard was picked to play in the All Semi-Finals in Indianapolis at Hinkle Fieldhouse.  In that year, according to the Indianapolis Star, The Princeton Tigers basketball squad was the greatest team in Princeton High School history.  Leonard graduated from Princeton High School in 1956.

Leonard was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Delores Priestly in 1957, and to this union three children were born, Blenda, Elvira, and Brett.  In 1957, Leonard and his family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he worked for the U. S. Postal Service and retired after thirty-five years of service.

Leonard was a devoted member at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.  He dearly loved his church family and attended church and Bible Study regularly.  Leonard cherished his family and many friends, throughout his life giving when others needed a helping hand.  Leonard loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending as many of their activities and sporting events as he could, even after his body began to fail him.  Leonard also had a passion for woodworking spending as much time as he could in his shop working on projects for his family and friends.

Leonard passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the age of seventy-five years. 

 

Leonard  is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Mary Delores Priestly Nolcox; children,  Blenda K. (Gil) Johnson, Elvira R. (Jeffery) Whitaker and Brett A. (Mia) Nolcox; grandchildren, Isaiah T. Lovett, Alyssa R. (Shonnie) Lee, Mariah Whitaker, Jasmine Whitaker, Laurene Nolcox and Brandon Nolcox; great grandchildren,  Khristian, Kaziah, Kaida and Marlon;  brother, Arman V. (Tanya) Nolcox, a host of other relatives, in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

 

Final arrangements have been entrusted to Stuart Mortuary, Inc.
