Helen Wheaton Smith, 87, of rural Evansville, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at her home.

 

Helen was born and raised in Elberfeld and graduated from Elberfeld High School. Mrs. Smith helped her husband on their farm and was retired from Whirlpool. She was an active member of Nobles Chapel church where she held various offices and was organist for many years. Helen enjoyed gatherings with family and friends, attending the many church suppers in the area and helping others. Helen enjoyed basketball games and was a long time supporter of Evansville College /University of Evansville teams along with watching Indiana University. Helen liked traveling by car, watching the wildlife and enjoying the scenery. She also enjoyed spending time at the river camp on the Wabash. Helen also participated in the Philharmonic Chorus on various occasions. She also found time for her hobbies of sewing and knitting.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 1975.

 

Surviving are nephews, Marvin (Lucy) Schultz of Elberfeld, Steve (Jane) Wheaton of Evansville, and Charles (Cathy) Gwaltney of Indianapolis; nieces Shirley Ann Rexing of Haubstadt and Darlene (Jeff) Chapman of Elberfeld; sister-in-law, Ruby McClure of Elberfeld; several cousins , great nephews and great nieces.

 

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 6, at Nobles Chapel Church in Elberfeld with burial at Nobles Chapel Cemetery.

 

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, 2nd. & Elm Streets, Elberfeld, Indiana and at 10:00 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
