Allen Charles Betulius passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his wife and three daughters who love him deeply, and he “walked” into the gates of heaven on Saturday, April 27, 2013

Allen was born on August 6, 1930, the only child of the late Carl S. and Gertrude L. Betulius, at his parents’ home in Warrenton, IN, the same town where he resided for 82 years.

He graduated from Haubstadt Public School in 1948. Soon after graduation, Allen served in the U.S. Army in Alaska during the Korean War.

He was married on September 15, 1956.

In addition to helping his father farm and operate a custom butchering business, Allen was employed by Evansville Union Stockyards and Pioneer Hi-Bred. He took pride in his seed corn business and knew every farmer in the tri-state by name.

Allen was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church since childhood. He was a dedicated community member and actively involved with the Haubstadt Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the American Legion of Haubstadt. He enjoyed watching Purdue basketball and was a life-long St. Louis Cardinal fan. He loved to dine with friends at the “neighbors’ table” at the Log Inn. Most of all, he was very fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and proudly attended all their events from baseball games to dance recitals.

Allen is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlene Gayle (Bassett) Betulius; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Jeff Vogel of Rockport, Lana and Steve Gruszewski of Haubstadt, and Jeana and Mark Harpenau of Jasper; six grandchildren, Eric Vogel and his wife Valerie, Lauren (Vogel) Hurm and her husband Adam, Lyndsi and Gavin Gruszewski, and Luke and Halee Harpenau; and three great-grandchildren, Hadleigh and Morgan Vogel, and Isabelle Hurm.

The family would like to extend their thanks to VNA Plus Hospice for the home care given to Allen; to Pastor Kirk Horstmeyer for the support and guidance to Allen and his family; and to all of the family, friends, and neighbors who have visited Allen during this stage of his life and prayed for him.

Visitation is from 3:00 – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN.

Services with burial following will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 10:00 am with Rev. Kirk Horstmeyer officiating.
