Martha A. Horne, 87, of Princeton, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at River Oaks Health Campus in Princeton.

 

She was born September 6, 1925 in Patoka, IL to Homer & Blanche Cargal.

 

She attended Princeton High School and worked at the Brush Factory in Princeton during WWII and the Navy Tarped (sic, ?Torpedo?) Station in Jamestown, Rhode Island. She retired in December 1984 from N.W.S.C. in Crane, Indiana. She also worked at First National Bank in Odon, IN. Martha was a Girl Scout leader in Reno, Nevada & Port Hueneme, California, a den mother and Cub Scout leader in Spring Valley, California and a high school band booster board member in Odon, Indiana. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star #276 and VFW #1147 both in Princeton

Martha and her husband Everett loved to travel. After retirement in December of 1984, they traveled all 50 states and several foreign countries and cruises, seeing all the beautiful landmarks in the U.S.A. 

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert “Jim” and Rebecca Horne; 2 grandchildren, Shelley Monahan and Robert “Bob” (Lesana) Burkhardt; 5 great grandchildren, Tyler Schlatt, Kadin Monahan, Seth, Caleb and Micah Burkhardt; sister, Evelyne McClure; very special nieces and nephews, Kathy and Denny Kelley, Jodi Meyers, John and Jeannie Stevens, Karen and Jamie McClure, Deb and J.B. Wells and many more nieces and nephews; and very special loving friends, Paul and Virginia Joiner and Lewis and Starla Bogard and their girls. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Everett Horne in 2008; daughter, Pamela Burkhardt in 1978; 4 brothers, Bill, Bud, John and Joe Cargal; and 8 sisters, Jessie, Stella, Helene, Pauline, Geneva, Marilyne, Kathryne and Jackie. 

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with Rev. John Dunn officiating. Burial will be in the Oddfellows Cemetery in Princeton.

 

Visitation will be from 11 AM until 1 PM on Saturday at the Colvin Funeral Home, with an Order of Eastern Star service immediately before the service.
