Fred Arnold Goodman, 84, passed away Friday, July 25, 2014 at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton.

He was born January 17, 1930 in Sullivan County the son of Hallie and Rillia (Black) Goodman.

He attended Sullivan High School where he loved playing football. Fred served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1954, was a member of the American Legion Post 139 Sullivan. He became a truck driver and soon afterwards a heavy equipment operator, went to work in the coal mines and later retired from AMAX coal Keensburg, IL He was an active UMWA member of Local 1791 for forty years. Fred married Mary L. (Williams) Goodman December 24, 1959.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; sons, Mitch A. (Joan) Goodman of Ft. Branch, Patrick J. (Karla) Goodman of Owensville, Scott A. (Jeanie) Goodman of Evansville; step-sons, Michael K. (Michelle) Clerk of Otwell, and Kevin L. (Margaret) Clerk of Knoxville, TN; 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer, Shalea and Joey Goodman, Kevin, Lacey, Kendall, Ross, Erika and Whitney Clerk; 13 great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and great-nephew Nicholas K. McKinley. Military graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 29 at 10:00 a.m. CST at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan with David Cox officiating.

Visitation will be Monday July 28, from 4-7 p.m. at Holders Funeral Home in Owensville.
