Carol J. (Field) Schafer, 85, of Princeton, our precious loving mother, grandma, great grandma, great-great grandma, and friend went to be with her Lord on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 29, 1929 in Princeton to Tobe A. and Mildred (Montgomery) Field.

Carol was one of a kind. She loved her family with all her heart and put her family first in her life. One of her greatest joys in life was cooking many Sunday dinners for her family. We have many cherished memories of our boating and camping trips to Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake.  The grandkids have cherished memories of their trips to Florida. Carol was a very devoted wife as she cared for her husband the last 11 years as he was in declining health. She was known for being the card queen of Princeton, as she would remember so many people on birthdays and special occasions.

She had worked at Hoosier Gas Co. in Princeton and then alongside her husband as they owned and operated K.W. Schafer & Sons until they retired in 1993 and moved to Rotonda West, Florida where they met many new friends and enjoyed retirement until 2003.  They returned home due to health reasons and lived the last 11 years enjoying their family. Carol was a member of the Patoka United Methodist Church. She had served as the Choir Director at Faith Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Lady Elks, Associate Tri Kappa and was a Life Member of Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Gibson General Hospital. She along with her husband sponsored many years of Little League Baseball and Youth Football.

She is survived by three sons, Michael (Shannon), Craig (Linda), Brent (Gayla) Schafer and one daughter, Sue Ellen (Mike) Beloat;  sister Mary Jane Johnson, Pueblo, Colorado; 15 grandkids, 33 great and 1 great-great; 2 nephews, one niece, one great niece and one great nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 66 years, Kenneth, on May 5, 2014, one nephew and one niece.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the Patoka United Methodist Church in Patoka with Pastor Jeff Pinney officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery near Fort Branch.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Colvin Funeral Home and again from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
