Steven Robert Land, 61 passed away Friday June 19th
2015 at The Waters Nursing Home in Princeton, IN.
He was born Feb. 6 1954 in Linton, IN.
He graduated from Mundelein High School in Mundelein Illinois and attended
college at the University of Kentucky.
He was survived by 2 sons, Joshua Land (Gandolfi),
Nicholas Land (Nicole), brother, Chris VanKooten,
sister, Penny Hargrave (Floyd) and foster sister,
Rita Jefferson. He is also survived by 2 grandsons, Joey and Lathan Land, and
several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his stepmother of 50 years,
Barbara (Krieg) Land and step father, Albert “Al” VanKooten.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Glen Land on May 24, 2015, his
mother, Barbara Lee (Payne) VanKooten and 2 sisters,
Peggy Lee Wyant and Mary Beth Bimel.
During his teenage and young adult years he worked under his step father
who was a renowned chef in Chicago, Illinois. He then moved to Kentucky and
worked alongside his father doing highway construction for 10 years before
working for the Paris, Kentucky Water Dept. Eventually he moved to Chicago, IL
and became a Chef who worked in some very prestigious establishments. He
finally moved to Princeton Indiana in 1992 and worked for the family’s 3 Aces
Tavern and Land’s End Café for several years as well as at The Palace Café, Cricketts, and for Nels Johnson.
He was a loving and friendly person and will be dearly missed by all.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday June 24, 2015, at the Colvin Funeral
Home in Princeton, with Rev. Andrew Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in
the Miller Cemetery in Oatsville.
Visitation will be from 12 pm until service time on
Wednesday at the funeral home.
