Larry “Dude” Holder passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at River Oaks surrounded by is family. 

He was born on June 10, 1928, in Evansville, IN to the late Lawrence and Margaret Holder. 

He was a graduate of Memorial High School.  Dude graduated in 1951 from Evansville College where he played basketball under Coach Arad McCutchen.  He served as a Military Policeman in the Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict.  His teaching and coaching careers began at Wadesville High School in 1953.  He continued those careers at Fort Branch High School and Gibson Southern High School from 1956-1990.  He was the first football coach at Fort Branch and also the coach of 4 basketball sectional winning teams. 

Dude was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the VFW in Fort Branch.  He was also a member of the K of C in Haubstadt.  He served on the South Gibson School Board and the Fort Branch Town Board.  He was a lifetime member of the Princeton Country Club where he was club champion fifteen times in three different decades.  He was proud that he had the course record of 59.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years Jean (Winstead) Holder. Two daughters, Jan Burger of Ft. Branch, IN, and Kathy Jo Odom of Owensville, IN.  Five Grandchildren,  Bryce (Stephanie) Burger of Owensboro, Ky, Brooke (Josh) Johnson of Cynthiana, IN, Megan (Odom) Dyson of Princeton, IN, Eddie Odom of Evansville, IN, and Jesse Odom of Owensville, IN.  Eight Great-Grandchildren,  Brock and Brayden Burger, Jaylie and Braxton Johnson, Kameron Broshears, Jaxx Raney, Meika and Mack Fromme, and is expecting a great-granddaughter in 3 weeks.   Also surviving are a Sister Sharon Ulrich of Evansville IN, Brother-in-law James (Jane) Winstead of Evansville, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

Dude was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Jean (Tenbarge) Hohl of Evansville, IN, sons-in-law Jay Burger, Ft Branch and Ed Odom, Owensville and brother-in-law Norm Ulrich of Evansville, IN.

The family would like to thank River Oaks Health Care Facility of Princeton and Southern Care Hospice Services of Evansville for their outstanding care and concern.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN.  Fathers Tony Ernst and Bhastati Sudhakar will be co-celebrants.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  There will be no visitation.
