Shelby Stevens Jr, 62, of Ft. Branch passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Deaconess VNA Hospice in Evansville.

He was born on August 19, 1953 to Shelby Sr. and Marion (Roth) Stevens.

He graduated high school in 1971 from PCHS where he was a member of the National Honor Society and a manager for the basketball and cross country team. He then earned his Bachelor’s degree in business from I.U. in 1975 where he was a life member of Delta Sigma Pi (Professional Business Fraternity), IUSA Student Government and IRHA Business Services. He then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1993 from USI where he was a member of Pinnacle Honor Society and completed 6 semesters on the Dean’s List. In 2008, he earned a Master’s degree in Special Education from ISU. He was a Keebler Co. sales rep, co-owner of Stevens Clothes for Men, and owner of Gemeca Inn. He also worked with the Gibson-Pike-Warrick Special Education Co-op for 15 years as a teacher of students with Emotional Disabilities, as a girls’ basketball coach at Haubstadt Community Middle School, Castle & Boonville Jr High School and Middle School. He was a Deacon and Elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Princeton. Shelby was Past Exalted Ruler, Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, Former Indiana State Ritual Chairman and several other Local and District offices of the Elks Lodge #634 of Princeton. He was Senior Vice-President of the Delta Sigma Pi Professional Business Fraternity (IU). He was also the Governor, Vice-Governor and Secretary/Treasurer of the IUSA Student Government (IU). 

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Penny Kaye (Curl) Stevens of Ft. Branch; son, Larry (Shelly) Powell of Ft. Branch; daughters, Tricia (Jason) Wade of Ft. Branch and Jennifer (Grant) Meade of Mt. Olympus; grandchildren, Cory Powell, Derek & Taelor Powell and Blake Powell, Jacob and Noah Wade, Coltin Higginbotham and Tanner & Shelby Lynn Meade; 5 great grandchildren, Carson, Kynzi, Landon, Savannah and Sheldon; sister, Lynn (Bill) Shoulders of Princeton; brother, Bob (Julie) Stevens of Princeton; in-laws, Barb & Pat (deceased) Patterson, Joyce & Cleo Shoultz, Sue & Don McCarthy (both deceased), Jean King & Percy Cook, Judy (deceased) & Bill Mason, Janet & Larry Georges, Terry & Marsha Curl, Nona & Chip Shrode and Tony Curl; 23 nieces and nephews; 46 great nieces and nephews; 1 aunt; and 5 cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, John & Clara Stevens and Walter & Minnie Roth; and a daughter, Melody Leigh Powell. 

Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Vertical Church in Ft. Branch, officiated by Pastor Steve Akins. Burial will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Princeton.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 pm on Saturday at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton and from 1:30 until service time on Sunday at the church.
