Beverly Joann Knight, 74, Oakland City, was joyously welcomed into her loving Savior’s arms March 4, 2016 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

She was born in Copper Mine, Arizona, Nov. 26, 1941, to Otis Weldon and Dollie Faye Ritter Cunningham.

Her parents and two siblings, Truman (Mary ) Cunningham, and Bettie C. Jones, preceded her in death.

Beverly spent most of her childhood in San Angelo, Texas. She rode the bus to the cotton field to make money for school shoes. She attended Lake View High School. She and her friends loved to swim at Lowrance’s pool.

Beverly met Jesse C. Knight Jr. at the bowling alley, where she was a cook. After the death of her parents, she married Jesse, the love of her life, on Jan. 31, 1959, and moved to Oakland City, to be with his family while he served his time in Alaska for the U.S. Air Force. Jesse preceded her in death June 21, 2000.

Beverly is survived by her three children, Rhonda, (Victor), Bajzath of Huntingburg, Cheryl (Darrel ) Siekman, of Oakland City, Christina (Kevin) Hornby, of Petersburg; grandchildren Kyle and Sara Hornby, Matthew and Nick Hoffer; numerous nieces, nephews and great grandchildren!

Beverly loved and dedicated her life to her family. She thought it was her duty to feed the world! She absolutely loved to cook and made each dish with love. She worked at many restaurants, including Carney’s where she was a manager.

Beverly and Jesse opened their home to many people over the years who needed their love and care! They raised three of their own children and nine others. She enjoyed life and great music. She will be missed by many.

Visitation was Wednesday, March 9, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg.

The funeral service is at 10 a.m. local time (11 a.m. fast time) Thursday at Mackey Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. Jerry Wibert officiating. Burial is at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg.
