Virginia Ruth (Matsel) Thompson, 89, passed away at her home surrounded by all of her family, Saturday, April 9, 2016.

She was born July 5, 1926 in Gibson County, IN to Earl and Maude (Hudson) Matsel.

In 1943, she married the love of her life Bernard Thompson.

She was a cook at the Owensville Community School for 23 years, during those years she raised 4 children and helped take care of her grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy. Ruth was devoted to her faith in the Lord and was a member and faithfully attended the First Christian Church of Owensville. She loved to paint and do crafts especially enjoyed quilting. In fact she made all of her children and grandchildren a quilt to be given to them on their wedding day. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 72 years, Bernard; children, Danny (Brenda) Thompson of Greenwood, IN, Jerry (Kari) Thompson of McKinney TX, Tim (Carla) Thompson and Jennifer (Jim) Robinson both of Owensville; 11 grandchildren, Kandi Henriott, Stephen Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Cynthia Gibbons, Susan Hon, Brad Thompson, Stacey McLaughlin, Megan and Jordan Robinson, Logan Thompson and Ashley Adams; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Earl, Carl and Everett “Doc” Matsel, Mary Ellen Thompson, Karen Key, Kay Reed, Emma Frances Farney and Grace York.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 11:00 am at Holders Funeral home with Bart Newton officiating. Burial will be in the Owensville Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 from 4-8 pm.
