Sybil (Sanders) Niemann died May 12, 2016 at the old homeplace in rural Patoka after an experience with cancer.

Sybil was born in Stewartsville, Indiana on July 10, 1940 to Sanford and Bernice (Weatherholt) Sanders.

Sybil’s parents were life-long public school teachers, whose gentle guidance was instrumental in her success. Sybil spent a significant portion of her youth in the gym, and was a cheerleader at Patoka High School and Oakland City College, where she graduated. Her great fondness for the small town schools and friends of her youth never wavered. She was an avid fan of high school and college sports, and was a very loyal supporter of her teams. She went on to the IU School of Dentistry, where she served as secretary of her class. She graduated Dental School in 1965, as one of two female dentists among the 87 graduates that year. Sybil found her niche in dental education, serving first as a teacher of dental hygiene students at the University of Arkansas and then as Director of Dental Auxiliary Education at the IU School of Dentistry in Indianapolis. She felt as though she made good connections with her students, and enjoyed serving in the role of mentor and counselor to them. She was renowned among her friends for her broad-based interests and sense of humor. She was an enthusiastic gardener and enjoyed sharing plants with friends and family. Most of all she was an amazing friend, mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed in these roles by many. She was a member of the Indianapolis District Dental Society and a 50 year member of the Indiana Dental Association. She also volunteered at dental and cancer screening clinics.

Surviving are two sons, Sam Niemann and wife Evelyn of Kirklin, IN and John Niemann and wife Dawn of Patoka, IN; four grandchildren, Dylan, Destiny, Haley and Corey; two brothers, Roy Sanders of Oaktown, IN and Fred Sanders of Kingsport, TN; and her former husband Jeff Niemann.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 5 to 7 PM at Colvin Funeral Home, 425 North Main St., Princeton, Indiana 47670.
