Opal (Heldt) Hartley, 101, died Thursday, June 16, 2016, at her home.

Opal was the youngest child born to Charles and Helen (Magenheimer) Heldt. Except for 1 year, when first married, she lived her entire life in Elberfeld, where her father was the local Funeral Director. She was a member of Zion UCC, Elberfeld, a member of the Rain Tree Quilters Guild, since 1987 and had been actively involved with the Vincennes Quilt Shows to benefit the William Henry Harrison Mansion in Vincennes. She graduated from Elberfeld High School in 1932.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Samuel R. (Rudy) Hartley; sisters, infant Margaret, Eunice Young (Emil), Helen Busing (Roy), Ethel Volkman (Ted); and one nephew, Harold Busing. Opal is survived by one daughter, Barbara Elliott (Bob) of Elberfeld; one granddaughter, Kimberly Hopson of Winchester, Kentucky; niece, Thelson Kleiman (Ron); nephew, William C. Young; godchild, Jay Hunter; family by choice, Jerry Hunter (Lois) and family and other nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, June 20, 2016, at Zion United Church of Christ, 165 Elm St., Elberfeld, Ind., Rev. Jeffrey McCarn will officiate, and burial will follow in Nobles Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m., Sunday, at Titzer Family Funeral Homes, Volkman Chapel, 2nd & Elm Streets, Elberfeld, Ind. (812) 983-4211, and 9 a.m. to service time Monday, at the church.
