William S.“Sam” Aldridge, 72, of Winslow, IN passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Alpha Home in Indianapolis.

Born in Pike County, IN, he was the son of the late James William and Mary Abbie (Church) Aldridge.

He retired from the U. S. Army as a Staff Sargeant in the Airborne Division after serving 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. He also graduated from Vincennes University and the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville with a degree in history education.

Surviving are four sisters and two brothers: Joyce Dossett (Howard) of Morganfield, KY; Effie Wolfe (Jerry) of Hazleton; Elsie Hartman (George) of Chapin, SC; Timothy Aldridge (Cate Schafer) of Cincinnati, OH; Benjamin Aldridge (Cheryl) of Humble, TX; and Mary Beth Aldridge of San Francisco, CA.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister: James Edward “Jim Ed” (Alice “Marie”) and Miriam Elaine Aldridge. He is also survived by 9 nieces and nephews and 7 great nieces and nephews.

The family has entrusted Doyle Funeral Home with arrangements.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 am at Doyle Funeral Home located at 520 S. Main St. in Princeton, Indiana with Pastor George Bruce officiating and the Retired Veterans Group performing military honors. Internment will take place at the Williams Cemetery in Pike County.
Visitation will be Saturday, from 9:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am.
