Marcus H. Wassmer, 79, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Transcendent Healthcare in Owensville, IN.

He was born to the late Andrew and Bertha (Pfeiffer) Wassmer on January 7, 1938 in Evansville, IN.

Marcus was retired from Emge Meat Packing where he worked as a livestock buyer for many years. He also worked at Tri-county Equipment in Poseyville, IN and Metro Carpet in Princeton, IN. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN, the Knights of Columbus in Haubstadt, IN, the Knights of St. John in St. Wendel, IN, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a friend to all and a stranger to none.

He was preceded in death by two sisters Margaret Wassmer and Mary Roberts and three brothers Paul, Andrew, and Henry Wassmer.

Marcus is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Kay (Georges) Wassmer of Fort Branch, IN, two children Beth (Darrin) Schmitt of Haubstadt, IN and Michael (Kristine Karges) Wassmer of Wadesville, IN, sister Henrietta (Larry) Hughes of Haubstadt, IN, brother Joe (Sherri) Wassmer of Mt. Vernon, IN, and grandchildren Kaitlyn and Landon Schmitt and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff and therapists at Transcedent Healthcare for the special care they gave to Marcus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, IN at 11:00 AM with Father Tony Ernst as the celebrant. Visitation for Marcus will be on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch, IN from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Monday at Stodghill Funeral Home from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
