Thelma Maedene “Dee” Akers, 82, of Princeton, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at her home.

She was born August 16, 1934 in Booville, IN.

She was a manager at Dollar General Stores in Princeton and Oakland City. She is a member of First Baptist Church in Princeton

She is survived by her husband of 47 years (on February 14, 2017), Thomas Akers of Princeton; 5 children, Janet Heitz of Princeton, Susan Rudman of Algonquin, IL, Sandra Boomsma of Bloomington, IN, Sarah Sobanski (Jim) of Des Plaines, IL and Donna McIntosh (Miles) of Princeton; 13 grandchildren, Sandy Cole, Sarah Boomsma, Aaron Boomsma (Erica), April Mermoud (Jason), Ashley Clark, Tiffany McCallister, Troy Snyder, Kelly Carter, Mandy Cantwell, RuthAnn McIntosh, Heather Heitz, Michelle Plank (Geoffrey) and James Sobanski (Brandy); 18 great grandchildren, Jacob Boomsma, Samantha, Micheal and William Cole, Clayton Watkins, Keely and Brian Boomsma, Zoe Clark, Mia Maedene  and Ava Lee Petro, Bright-Eyes, Celian and Talley Mermoud, Tiffany Heitz, Savanna Nichols, Kayla, Katherine and Riley Sobanski; and 3 great-great grandchildren, Alayah, Adrian and Adalyn Robertson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bert O. Smith and Golda Mae (King) Smith Combs; 2 sons, Donnie McCallister II (Robin) and Andrew Akers; brother, Basil Smith; and 2 sisters, Annabell Oster and Lorena Sebren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, officiated by Rev. Jim Saunders. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Poseyville. Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time on Thursday at the Colvin Funeral Home.
