Robert E. Strickland, 89, of Princeton, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at The Waters of Princeton.

He was born on June 25, 1927 in Owensville, IN to Louchin and Alice (Riddle) Strickland.

He was a member of the US National Guard. He retired from North Gibson School Corp., where he worked in the maintenance dept. and drove a school bus. He formerly worked for R.J. Refinery and was a farmer. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Princeton. He was a hardworking man. He enjoyed gardening and steam engines and loved his dog. He was also a Chicago Cubs and I.U. fan.

He is survived by his children, Teresa Slunaker (Robert) of West Salem, IL, Sonya Cowan (John) of Winston Salem, NC and Leslie Strickland of Princeton; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie Durham (Shane), Brandy Richards (Ben), Josh Slunaker (Stessy), April Cowan and Edwin Cowan; 8 great grandchildren, Shane Jr., Jacob, Logan, Joseph, Rylee, Dakota, Dallas and Savannah; 3 great-great grandchildren, Annabell, Jayah and Zelda.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frieda Strickland in 2008; brothers, Arthur Paul, Roy and Floyd Strickland; sisters, Thelma Strickland and Lois Mauck; step children, Ron and Don Gray and Kathy Kim Gray; and great grandchild, Alex Lee Durham.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 am on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, officiated by Pastor Jim Saunders. Burial will be Odd Fellows Cemetery in Princeton. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 pm on Wednesday at the Colvin Funeral Home.
