Joe Thompson, 83, of Wheeling, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

He was born February 6, 1934 in Wheeling.

Joe was a 1953 graduate of Mt. Olympus High School and served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea for 2 years. He was a retired truck driver from the former Emge Packing Co. in Fort Branch. He served 8 years as a member of the North Gibson School Board and attended Mt. Tabor General Baptist Church near Wheeling. He was a huge Indiana University and Cardinals baseball fan and attended all of his grandchildren’s sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Sterczer) Thompson; children, Lisa Feagley (Russell), David Thompson (Melissa) and Jay Thompson (Rachel); grandchildren, Keith (Jenny), Brandyn (Gabby), Dustin, Braydyn, Alec, Jacinda, Raelynn and Rhett; great grandchildren, Ty, Kalli, Ryker and Sawyer; 2 brothers-in-law, Thomas Cousert and Jack Smith; 1 sister-in-law, Gloria Sterczer; nieces and nephews, Barb Buck, Sherry Smith, Lori Nivens, Keith Smith, Jan Keevin, Donna Butler, Jeff Miley, Nick, Greg and Robby Sterczer; also many other great nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Elden and Marjorie Thompson; sisters, Imogene Cousert and twin sister, Joan Smith; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael and Heidi Sterczer; brother-in-law, Michael Sterczer; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Heidi Miley.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. CDT Friday, April 14, 2017 at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, with Pastor Wesley Haas and Pastor Brad Keenan officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olympus with full military rites by the Retired Military Veterans. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. CDT on Thursday and again from 9 a.m. CDT until the hour of service on Friday at Colvin Funeral Home.
