Frederick M. Smith, 83, of Owensville, passed away, Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at his residence.

He was born July 22, 1933 in Princeton to the late Shirley M. and Goldie Taylor Smith.

Mr. Smith graduated from Princeton High School class of 1951, and alumni of Evansville College. He is a US Army Veteran and was stationed in Germany. He worked for a railroad in Michigan then came back to Owensville and managed H.S. Benson for many years and he then took a position with USDA at ASCS Office as compliance officer supervisor then became executive director for the USDA in Vanderburg County where he retired from. He was a 50 year member of Prince Lodge #231 F & AM Masonic Lodge in Princeton,IN., he was past exalted ruler for Princeton Elk Lodge, and a member of the American Legion in Princeton, IN.

Aside from his parents he was preceded in death, by a sister, Shirley T. Smith and brothers, Edward W. Smith and George Allen Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Kathleen Benson Smith of Owensville, five children, Laura Elizabeth Smith- Shain , Devin Smith, George Allen Smith, Schuyler Smith, all of Owensville, and Sylvia Courtnee Winterinheimer of New Albany. Mr. Smith was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Alexander Shain, Olivia Faith, Lenlee Haase, Laurel Smith, Katie Smith and Rebecca Smith, Austin Phelps, Tori Phelps, 2 great grandchildren, Adalynn Haase and Aunika Haase. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 10, 2017 at Fort Branch First United Methodist Church in Fort Branch, with Kristi Pflug officiating. Inurnment will be Benson Cemetery near Owensville, with military honors. Family of Frederick Smith will host family and friends from 10AM until time of service at the church.
