Alvin Schumacher “BIG AL” 84 of Oakland City, IN formerly of Granville, IL. entered into rest on Tuesday Sept. 12,2017 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

He was born on July 19,1933 in Petersburg, IN to William & Sarah (English) Schumacher.

Alvin served the Army during Korean War, and was a member of Granville American Legion Post #180 for 24 years. He served as Vice Commander in 1996 and Commander from 1997-1999. And a member of Granville, IL F&A.M. Lodge #1093, along with Granville United Church of Christ. Honorary member of 10/33 Ambulance Service.  Retired from LTV Steel in Hennepin, IL in 1993 as a Roll Grinder, member of United Steel Workers of America. He guided retirees of United Steel Workers of America for several years. He also Farmed for several years, and had a great love for gardening, wood working, Bingo, enjoyed walking, and especially cooking.  Since moving to Oakland City, he and Linda attended Forsythe and Trinity United Methodist Church’s.  Under the current Mayor of Oakland City Hugh Wirth he served as Building Inspector. 

Survived by wife Linda (Kays) Schumacher whom he married Jan. 26,1958 in Forsythe United Methodist Church. Daughter Angie Schumacher of Spring Valley, Il. Special Nephews Brian & Jacob Stilwell. Several Nieces and Nephews.

Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday Sept. 18,2017 at Forsythe Cemetery.


Rev. Kristi Calhoun and Rev. Larry Stoops will be officiating. Family has entrusted Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel for assistance.
