Mary Alice Simmons, 95, died Tuesday, December 4, 2017, in Oakland City, Indiana.

Mary Alice was born Oct. 23, 1922, in Oakland City, to Curtis and Mabel (Kuhn) Jones.

She was a graduate of Oakland City High School and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Oakland City College in 1944.

She married Kenneth P. Simmons in 1943.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Curt Simmons; her parents; and her brother, Russell Jones.

She taught in the Oakland City school system and at Casey Junior High School in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mary Alice and her husband owned and operated Jones Clothing and Shoe Store in Oakland City for many years. Before retirement, she worked in the office of State Farm Insurance agent Dale Grinstead. Mary Alice was a member of Tri Kappa.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Simmons.
