(Most of the documents were assembled in the 1920's, but often refer to events from much earlier.  There is a tremendous amount of detail referring to proof of family relationships.)

Alfred M. Johnson, being first duly sworn on his oath deposes and says, that he was personally acquainted with Lydia L. Waters and Joel H. Waters, who on the 7th day of April 1883, executed a deed of conveyance to Andrew Simpson for land in SE ¼ of Section 8, Town 3 south, range 12 west in Gibson County Indiana, and he positively knows that at the time of executing said deed of conveyance the said Lydia L. Waters and the said Joel H. Waters were husband and wife. Signed, Alfred M. Johnson. Subscribed and sworn to before me on this 8th day of January 1924 signed Charles W. Benton, Notary Public.
