Bohley Cemetery

Location: Grant township. S of Co. R 400N on Co. R 925W ;also given as North of Linton, Indiana on Lone Tree Road.

The location was also the first Nine Miles German Methodist Church built in 1857 by Christain Bohley; The log church was built on one acre of land with an adjoining acre set aside for the Bohley Cemetery.

Prior to the Civil War, a new church at the present location was planned. The Bohley family had started building the new church until four of Christian & Margaret’s five sons joined the Civil War. Because of this and due to shortages of material, money, and manpower, the building of the new church was postponed during the war. The church was not completed until 1870;upon completion, the new church was named the Harrah Chapel in honor of Mr. Osborn Harrah whohad donated the land for the new church; it is located one mile from the original log church & cemetery.

The old log church stood strong and proud for many decades after the Harrah Chapel was built. After the new church was built, services were no longer held in the log church, but Margaret Bohley saw that the church was still used; allowing families to use it as a place of refuge and as a shelter house for the bereaved families bringing their loved ones to their final resting place. As the years went by, the weather took its toll on the log church and it finally collapsed. The land it was built on was combined with the original cemetery to enlarge the cemetery to two acres.

In 1970 the pillars that mark the entrance to the cemetery was erected by his grandson Clint A. Bohley in memory of his grandfather.
