Greene County Indiana Cemetery List

I've attempted to list all of the known cemeteries.

Back in the late 1970's and early 1980's Mary Lou (Neill) Combs Wiles Brewer, an avid genealogist of Greene county collected a series of loose leaf cemetery inscriptions of Greene county. They had been passed around by many and there were copicous notes on them about the people [as to spouse, parents, marriage dates, miltary serivce etc], and dates filled in where missing dates. Being out of county she supplied me with these and I treasured them; adding to them from the Bloomfield News over the years. If you know of a town or cemetery that I've missed, please let me know.

The name list will contain the name of the cemetery and all other names that it is known by; township it is located in; and location; a column is given for Caretaker - but as yet none is known to me. As I can I will try and fill in as much of the missing information that is possible. From the name list of cemeteries in Greene county you can access the burial records.

I would like transcriptions of all of the cemeteries, along with any pictures that you may have.

I am adding a link directly from this page to the site INDIANA PIONEER CEMETERIES RESTORATION PROJECT by Helen Wildermuth Stonehugger. I firmly believe that our cemeteries should be kept in pristine condition. The stones should be repaired as needed and those who descecrate a cemetery should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and where there are no laws, they should be enacted.

Also another great link is Find-a-Grave for Greene county. It does contain duplicate cemetery listings under double named ie would be Mt. Zion and Dog Island in Washington township and many others unless just recently combined

The Indiana State Library also has a cemetery locator database file here The is a database called VINE or Vital INformation Exchange it states that the site Under Development: All features are not fully functional

There are 24 American Cemeteries overseas that are maintained by the ABMC These are from WW I and WW II.

The Carmichael Cemetery was horribly <="http://gcdailyworld.com/blogs/chrispruett/entry/29153/" target=new>vandalized sometime before 6 Aug. 2009 with

"...spray paint on buildings, signs, an outhouse, and items on tombstones had been knocked off -- including a vase on his grandfather's gravesite..." This is total disrespect, un-called for and scandalous in my opinion!

They spray painted the word or initials ACE on several things, "and one I couldn't distinguish because it was in cursive...

The Old cemetery listings were basically just a list of veterans buried in the cemetery with no data given. These list of veterans for the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican War, Spanish American War, Civil War, World War I & II, Korean and Vietnam War verterans cane be found else where on the site.

The information within the cemetery listings may not be what is actually inscribed on the tombstone. It is compiled data from varied sources regarding the burial of a person. It is hoped that this listing will provided a linking place for obituary, photo of the tombstone; popssibly even as time permis linking to biographies that appear on the site also.

If Section, Row, Lot and Space information is availabe it would be appreciated. Also as would be any corrections and updates. Obituaries will be linked as time permits and a re-check done once more are broke-up and put on site. If you find an obituary on site that is not connected - please let me know and I will connects - just send me the obituary link - and the cemtery to which it should be connected too - I am planing to extracte the data from the obits of birth, death burial and cemetery out as time permits - to re-check the cemetery databas.
