John Ferguson Family

1 John Fersuson was born in 1758, of Scotch Irish parentage. He was listed as a member fo Parliament, but was forced to flee England because of political activity.

In 1762 a the age of twenty-five years he settled in Virginia, then went to North Huntington township, Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania where he is listed in the 1790 census. When teaching school there he met and married DEBORAH BLACKBURN, age 15, aand he was age 30 at the time.

Deborah was the daughter of Anthony Blackburn (1730-1802) of S. Huntington township Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania.

There were two children born to this union.

He died in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania in 1794 intestate. His death being caused by quick consuption.

Deborah after John Ferguson's death went to live with her parents. Sometime after 1800 she married James Davidson. This family moved to Columbania county Ohio and children were born to the second marriage.

Deborah's brother Anthony Blackburn Jr. also lived and died in Columbania county, Ohio.

There were eleven children all having died before 1910, except Susan (Mayes) Barter, who was then living in Mexico, Missouri, age 68 years. Little is known of her descendants. Two of them lived in East Liverpool, Ohio - R. I. Stewart and Mrs. Mary Surls. There was John born in 1872 who was an Elder in the Calcutta Presbyterian Church in Columbania county, Ohio; twins Alexander and Anthony born 1829; and Eleanor born 1832.

From the Uuncle Jack Baber Greene county history, Cass township: Anthony Ferguson is eighty-five years old, and lives on the JOHN F. O'NEAL farm. He came from Columbia county, Ohio, at a early day.

"DEATH CALLS WELL KNOWN CITIZEN. MARION FERGUSON DIES AT ODON HOME WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT AGE OF 77 YEARS.

Marion FERGUSON, one of this community's most widely known citizens died at his home in south Odon Wednesday night about 9:30 o'clock, his death following a paralytic stroke which came to him Tuesday morning. He had been in fairly good health, in fact was able to be about his work just before the stroke came.

Marion FERGUSON was the son of John and Selina FERGUSON and was born in Columbiana County, Ohio November 25, 1849. When two years of age he came with his parents to this community and settled north of this city where the greater part of his life was lived. He was a farmer and stockman by occupation and acquired a splendid farm north of town which he kept in excellent condition. About fourteen years ago he retired from active farming and moved to Odon locating on Grove street near the city park where he has since resided.

On October 31, 1878 Mr. FERGUSON was united in marriage to Miss Emma HEISE and to this union five children were born. Two of these died in infancy and those who survive are as follows: Mrs. Pearl LEDGERWOOD of Indianapolis and Edd and Louis of this township. He also leaves a twin sister, Mrs. Alwilda POWNALL of this city.

Mr. FERGUSON was a good citizen and took much interest in the political and civic life of the community. He was a member of the First Christian church of this city.

He leaves a number of relatives besides the members of his immediate family and a host of friends.

The funeral services will be held at the First Christian church in this city Saturday afternoon at 1:30 with Rev. C. H. Buchanan in charge. Burial will be made at Walnut Hill.
