Jonah Queen Family
There is to be a book on this family entitled: "John Queen of Loudoun Co., VA" by Paul E. Dyer
Jonah Queen, Senior: his children and their descendants Milner, Samuel George
1 John QUEEN born 9 Oct 1720, St. John's Parish, Prince George's, Maryland died 9 Sep 1805, Loudoun County, Virginia [ancestry is given as: son of Timothy and Jane (Henson) Mc Queen who was son of John MCQUEEN born 21 AUG 1653 Petty,Inverness, Scotland who was son of Donald MCQUEENE]; married MARY BUTLER He was previously of county of Donegal, Ireland and was a farmer.
Purchased land in Louden county Virginia 1761-66, 1802. Deeds Louden county Virginia for John and Mary Queen - 7 Sep. 1761 from Joseph West drains of the N. E. Fork of Gosse Creek 250 acres price 27 pounds.
From these land purchases, 1761-1766 and a will dated 1802 in Loudon county, Virginia for a John Queen, it also seems quite probable that he is the possible father of these boys [Jonah, Elijah and John] bought this land in 1761 and that the family came at a later date. Jonah, five years old in 1761. However his will does show the relationship.
His will is dated 2 Feb. 1802 and was probated in 1805 recorded in Book. G page 379. It lists bequeath's and items paid from the estate. And it is signed by "X", his mark.

6 ELIJAH QUEEN
Soon after coming to America he became an active leader of the pioneer settlers in resisting the incursions of the Indianas and became noted as an Indiana fighter. It is related that in an attack by the savages, he killed two or three of their ablest warriors, and after weeks of watchful effort, he was finally waylayed and capturedied He was taken before their council and it was determined that he should be beheaded, but the wife of the chief interceded for him and obtained his release on condition that he would marry their daughter, to which arrangement he gave his consent. He lived with the Indians a few years, became the father of one or two children, but wearied of the alliance and meditated desertion or escape. Finally he disappeared and was never heard of again; whether he was killed by the natives themselves when they discovered his intention to escape or whether he voluntaily fled from all of his old associations and died alone, will never be known.
7 JONAH QUEEN born 5 Mar 1755 county of Donegal, Ireland died 19 Feb 1847 Columbiana county Ohio; married SARAH CATHERINE MARCH
John and Jonah Queen of Loudoun County, VA bought two tracts of land in Hampshire County (196 1/2 & 76 acres) from John
Larimore for L100 on 15 Feb 1802, VA. Jonah Queen and Catharine, his wife, sold their share to John Queen for $275 on 17 April 1809.
8 JOHN QUEEN
John Queen in his Revolutionary War Pension application gives his own birth date as 1755 and place of birth as Loudoun County, VA. - with this it is suspected that John and Jonah were twins.Buying land as partners would seem to be a further indication that John and Jonah were probably twins.

1891, pg 990 - Jonah came to America as a young man locating in Virginia, where he reared a family of children. After a residence of several years in Loudon County, Virginia, where he followed agricultural pursuits, he moved to Ohio and settled in Columbiana County where he diedied He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and one of the many colonists who fought for the establishment of the great Republic.
The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Vol 155 Jonah served as private in Captain Elgin's Company of Virginia troops.
Sarah drew a pension of $88/month until her death, husband served in War 1812 She was Paralytic for many years
Naturally very reserved in personal matters, he never enlightened his friends as to his parentage, or refered to his early life and education. He was of a serious disposition, yet possessed an ardent nature quickly aroused and not unyielding in what he regarded as just and right. He and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal Chruch, and he died in that faith.
We now only know that early in his career he was imbued with a spirit of dissatisfaction with the government of England; sympathised with the American Colonists in their struggle for self-government.
That about 1770 he and probably his two brothers, ELijah and John came to America and settle in Strafford county Virginia.
He soon joined the colonial Forces in the War for Independence, and served during a great part of the was under Captain Elgin. - From manuscript Volume in the Virginia State Library known as Auditor's Account XV and on page 401, and Virginia State Library Report Volume VIII page. 363
After peace was declared sometime between 1783 and 1785, he married Sarah Catherine March and they settled in Loudoun county Virginia where most of his children were born. In the first decade of the 18th century he and his family moved to Ohio settling on a farm a few miles northwest of East Liverpool in Columbiana county. Here he spent the rest of his life; the last few years with his fourth and youngest son, Elijah, and into whose possession the old homestead had fallen.
