Valis D. Bingham



Valis D. Bingham, 68, of 325 East Broad Street, Lyons, died Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at his residence.

Born Dec. 14, 1922 in Switz City, he was the son of Otis W. and Alza Mae (Buskirk) Bingham. He was a 1941 graduate of Switz City High School and moved to Lyons in 1949 where he operated the Lyons Electric Co. for 10 years.

He was a Greene County Veterans Service officer from 1961-66. He began a career in politics and as a Democrat County Clerk and was county auditor when he retired in 1985.

He was then elected to an at-large seat on the Greene County Council in 1988. He was a board member of the Four Rivers Rehabilitation Service, a member of the United methodist Church of Lyons, a veteran of World War II where he served in England with the Army Air Froce, was a member of the Lyons Masonic Lodge, the Terre Haute Scottish Rite and the Lyons American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Betty June (Isenogle) Bingham; one sone, Brad Bingham of Bloomfield; one daughter, Shana Bowman of Greenwood; two Beatrix Payne and Mary Lea Schalk both of Crawfordsville; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Milford O. Bingham.

Services werre 2 p.m. Friday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Dr. Wayne Brown and the Rev. Bret Myers officiating.

Burial was in Grandview Cemetery.
