Raymond C. Chambers


Raymond C. Chambers, 83, of Hobbieville, died Oct. 27, at his residence.

Born Jan. 2, 1906, in Monroe County, he was the son of Andrew J. and Saphronia (Shackelford) CHambers. He was retired from the Allison Division of General Motors in Indianapolis. He was a millwright, a farmer and a carpneter. He was a member of the Sherwood Oaks Christain Church and had served as deacon.

Surviviors include his wife, Kathryn (Burris) Chambers of Hobbieville; four sons, Ronald D. Chambers and Dana Chambers, both of Bloomfield, Donald Chambers of Indianapolis; one daughter, Norma Wright of Ellettsville; one brother, Newt Chambers of Cabot, Ark.; 25 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son Jerry Joe Chambers; two daughter, Patricia Nolan and a daughter who died in infancy; two brothers, Leonard Chambers and John Chambers; and one half brother, Raleigh Chambers.

Services were 2 p.m. Monday at the Sherwood Oaks Christain Church with the Revs. Tom Ellsworth and Terry Allshouse officiating. Burial was in Smithville Cemetery. - - 2 Nov. 1989 Bloomfield News.
