"Theodore Fields Dies at His Home."

Theodore "Jack" FIELDS, seventy-five years old, for many years a merchant in East Bloomfield, died Saturday morning at the family residence at 8 o'clock. He had been in failing health for a number of years. Last Sunday he suffered a stroke of apoplexy which left one side paralyzed.

He was born at Owensburg, but moved to Bloomfield many years ago. His widow, who was before her marriage, Miss Nettie BRUGH, of Bloomfield, survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Paul ROGERS, of Bloomfield and two sons, Eugene Brugh FIELDS, of Boulder, Colorado, and William Theodore FIELDS, of Chicago.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Christian church, and were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Ronald L. SECRIST.

Burial was made here in Grand View Cemetery.

"DEATH" HARVEST"FIELDS."

Theodore FIELDS was a descendant of a family of FIELDS that came to America from England in 1800.

There were three brothers who made this hazardous voyage and landed in Massachusetts. The three remained together for several years. When they separated, the oldest went into Virginia, the second to New York state, the youngest, Henry FIELDS, the great-grandfather of the deceased, migrated to Kentucky.

Here he met and married a girl of a pioneer family. They continued to live in Kentucky, where a son, William, was born in 1809. This son grew to manhood and married in 1827. In 1829 a son was born to this union. This son, John FIELDS was the father of the deceased. The mother was Mary FIELDS, who parents had emigrated from England. They had met in Illinois. While the name was FIELDS, no trace of relationship existed.

The husband and wife, John and Mary FIELDS, made their home in southern Indiana. On December 25, 1860, a son was born "Theodore FIELDS" the deceased.

When his son was only one year of age, the father died, leaving the mother and young son. The mother remarried and a son and daughter were born, namely, John and Mary COLLINS; this half-sister, Mary (COLLINS) SUMWALT, survives the deceased, and resides in California.

In early life, like most boys of his day time was spent in school and helping around the house. When very young, not content to be dependent on his mother, the deceased launched out on his own resources.

He was a painter by trade, and for many years had a profitable business in Greene County. He made his home in Owensburg, Jackson Township, for years, later resided in Linton. While living in Linton, he met Nettie BRUGH, of Bloomfield, to whom he was married in February 1906. He then came to Bloomfield and they have spent their entire married life in the house where he passed away in the early hours of the morning, Saturday, March 14, at the age of seventy-five years, two months and nineteen days.

Four children were born to this union: Mrs. Mary ROGERS, of Bloomfield; Brugh FIELDS, of Longmont, California; William FIELDS, of Chicago. Frederick died at the age of two years. This was the first great sorrow that came to the family. They had shared the home of Grandma BRUGH; all were well and each had his task, sharing in making a happy contented family.

The writer remembers well when their family members of the Christian church"all attended church services and Sunday school together regularly, contributing their share in all the activities for community benefit.

Ill health and continued suffering for days, weeks, months, and years came to him. While everything was done that could be done, nothing brought back health and strength. Discouraged, broke in spirit, he had to give up his trade, but tried to carry on;; so he built and kept the little store near his home until a short time ago he was too ill to carry on.

He loved his home, his family, the grandchildren, Elwanda Jane ROGERS and Douglas Baker FIELDS.

He was a Mason, member of the Bloomfield lodge, and was active when his health permitted.

He is survived by a number of relatives, the sister in California, his faithful wife, three children, his grandchildren, and many friends to mourn their loss; however, after the long time of suffering, he has found rest and peace.

"Sunset and evening star, and one clear call for me, and may there be no moaning of the bar when I put out to sea."

We wish to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to our many good neighbors and friends who so ably assisted us during the sickness; and after the death of our beloved husband and father, Theodore FIELDS.
