James W. HEATONAnother Soldier Passed to His Reward After an illness of several months James W. HEATON died last Saturday at his home north of town. He was born in Richland Township, this county, July 1, 1839, and was the son of William and Nancy (STONE) HEATON. He was married March 28, 1867, to Miss Carrie BURCHAM, who survives him and is the mother of the following surviving children: Elza HEATON, Mrs. John BRANSTETTER, miss Anna HEATON and Thomas M. HEATON, all respected residents of Richland Township, and all have taught in the public schools. The deceased enlisted in the Civil War August 11, 1862, and entered the service at Richmond, Kentucky. His regiment was captured by the Confederates and later returned to Indianapolis, after which his COMPANY H, SEVENTY-FIRST INFANTRY, was consigned to the SIXTH CAVALRY. He accompanied the troops through the southern campaigns and finally joined the army of General SHERMAN in Georgia. He was shot through the wrist at Hazel Grove, Kentucky, but continued his duty with his company. He was honorably discharged out of the army service June 17, 1865. He resided many years on a farm five miles east of BLOOMFIELD, and was well known and beloved by his neighbors. He was an industrious farmer, a good citizen and a kind husband and father. He moved to BLOOMFIELD in 1907 and has been one of our most respected citizens for the past three years. He served many years as a justice of the peace. He was a member of the G. A. R. and in religious life affiliated with the Baptist congregation. The funeral was held Monday forenoon at the family residence, conducted by Rev. P. H. FAULK and Rev. E. H. WOOD.
