Gay Marie JeanGay Marie Jean of Solsberry, Indiana, formerly of Spencer, Indiana, and Worthington, Indiana, passed away late Wednesday afternoon, July 4, 2007, at the home of her daughter in Solsberry. She was 87 years old, born November 13, 1919, in Worthington to Garrett and Bessie (Fiscus) Hamilton. Gay Marie was a homemaker and she and her husband had operated a dairy farm. She retired twice, first at age 62 from Worthington State Bank in Worthington, second at age 80 from Owen County State Bank in Spencer. She was a member of the Folsom Memorial United Methodist Church in Worthington. She is survived by two children, daughter Patricia (Wayne) Furr Shuffitt of Solsberry and son Steve (Bonnie F.) Jean of Worthington; seven grandchildren including Ed (Shelly) Furr, Paul (Kay) Furr, Rachel (Brian) Abrell, Joe Jean, Dawn (Jeff) Kail, Paula (Brent) Dyer and Brian (April) Jean; three step-grandchildren including Flora Hepburn, Lisa (John) Neal and Robin Shuffitt; 14 great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sarah Bays of Linton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merle Jean, Jr., in 1982; two brothers, John and Joe Hamilton; and one sister, Pauline Steward. A funeral service was conducted at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 7. Friends visited at Welch & Cornett from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. The place of burial is Worthington Cemetery.
